NYC Makeup Thumbnails
Please keep in mind that I am designing this for a teen audience when critiquing. Please use clear words to indicate which sketch you are talking about. Rather than "the one with lots of black" say "the bottom left" etc. Tell me which logos are going in the right direction as well. Thank you!

nice job designing to your target. i feel that your first and third sets are the strongest. your variations between sets are really good now you just have to pick which one (the hardest thing). because its a teen brand i think the second logo and the one where the "Y" contains "NYC" are most playful and effective. looking forward to seeing which direction you take good luck.
ReplyDeleteGood variations, all of which feel appropriate for your audience with the exception of the top center packaging. It appears too cartoony and juvenile. Although you are designing for teen girls, I assume that they would want to purchase a product that makes them feel older. That being said, as a guy, I don't have much insight for what's attractive in makeup packaging. I thought that their original logo worked fine.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing sketches and ideas. Not quite sure which set to choose from, they are all quite well done.
ReplyDeleteThe first one from the top row and the second one from the bottom row looks like it could work best. They both have a feminine fun look to it which would attract young girls very much.

I like nr1 on the upper left... it has a feminine look, but could be too feminine because it gives some sort of sophisticated feel.. The lower left also works for nyc... this one is more girly to me. for this you could use black/white and one more color, red perhaps... i think that could work. For logo, nr 1 is good. However, if you decide to go for nr 1 on lower left, I think this could be too much. 3rd or 4th logo could work for that one.
ReplyDeleteTop left and top middle...
ReplyDeleteThey work because I think that it would appeal to the younger females. They're both decorated with cute flowers and I can definitely see them in many colors.
Logos...
Either the 2nd one from the left or the last one on the right might work. I like the cityscape mark and the flower mark. Both are fun simple.

as far as structures, i can see the bottom center one working well. I like the flower treatment. As for the logo, the 4th or the last one is working the best for me.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what teenage girls would like, but I like the top left and top right for over all design. The top right is a good structure, i like how the bottom of the box show when the top is on. for logos, the center two are good, there bold enough with out being two cluttered.
ReplyDeletei like the third one from the top it's nice and clean the others tend to lean towards specific age group and the third one is more of a general audience.

For layouts I think the top right and bottom left are going in the right direction. For the city style I think color will make or break that direction, I wouldn't make the buildings black, I don't think it would feel feminine or like makeup. I'd use vibrant colors, like current hip hop fashion.
ReplyDeleteThe huge bold type of the top right layouts is interesting, makes it easy to read and distinguish what each product is plus I don't think most make up products have that.
As for logos I like the first 2 of the 3 stacked ones. The simplicity and playfulness of lowercase help reach out to your young audience.

it well design the 123 are my pick for the design and packaging. nice illurtation and typography for each.
ReplyDeletethanks for the high contrast sketches! so much easier on my eyes!
ReplyDeletethe first one that caught my attention was the middle set on the bottom row, but then I saw the ones to the left of it (New york skyline die cuts) and I think that is a better solution for the brand. the die cuts are awesome and since they are square it shouldn't be too difficult to cut :)
